IB Visual Art Courses - Everything you should know

IB Visual Art Course

The IB Visual Art course revolves around the following 3 aspects of art practice – as an IB student, you are all of these!

The Critic

Exploration of art forms and artists from varying times, places and cultures.

Study of techniques, processes and context.

Visual communication of knowledge; investigative strategies, comparative analysis, reflection and critical thinking

The Maker

Exploration and experimentation of techniques and processes.

Development of your own concepts and processes.

Reflection, self-evaluation and art-making: producing a coherent body of work.

The Curator

Articulation of intentions.

Display: choices, observations and coherence.

Exploration of the relationship between artist, artwork and viewer.

Your own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries are challenged in this thought-provoking course in which analytical skills in problem-solving and creative thinking are explored in depth.

*Did you know?*

The Visual Arts course does not sit an exam – this means that by exam-time, you will only be sitting exams for your other IB subjects. This has its advantages – however the Visual Art course is one of the most text-heavy courses!

In order to be on track, it is vital that you develop your written components early on, allowing you to balance the practical and theoretical work coherently and effectively.
